Follow Up Data for Onset Fire Department

Image
Very slowly information is being extracted regarding the true costs of running the Onset Fire District, through filing of Freedom of Information Act requests. Source: Onset Fire District Records Officer. The District spent a great deal of money on a lawyer to tell us that they are not about to give us public information.  The irony is that they just completed collective bargaining negotiations, and should have had all of this information collected and in use for negotiations. Some information gleaned from this request: The health and dental insurance benefit is very generous.  When considering total "pay" salary plus benefits plus retirement must be considered together.  Each current employee and a Prudential Committee member receive the benefit of $745.00 a month for a single plan or $1,986.00 a month for a family plan for medical only. The Onset Fire and Water District has 85 employees. The Paid Leave benefits are as much as 33 days a year (6 1/2 work weeks). ...

ARE we serious about ending death-dealing in Wareham in 2018?

This is a human tragedy in every way, certainly. It is also an opportunity to see how serious Wareham is about using every tool available to combat the epidemic.  The drug house is 2 miles from Minot Elementary School. That’s 3,520 yards.  There was an overdose in Onset Village last night, two doses of Narcan were administered and I hope the patient survived.  The owner of 3 Dowd Ave. is a matter of public record. It is rumored that the property is rented with public housing funds. Wareham has laws on the books concerning landlord responsibility for know drug activity on their property. Write to the landlord. Tell her we won’t tolerate harboring this activity.  Are children involved? Lemay was already on bail from Plymouth (thanks Plymouth.)  The next court event is January 9, 2018 for all three. Who will join us in protesting in front of the courthouse in Wareham calling for mandatory drug treatment and revocation of bail pending trial?...

Is Wareham Alone Zero Programs RE: Opioids?

This is the biggest bunch of BS to come out of Patrick Tropeano since the last biggest bunch. “Everybody knows I’m big on that whole thing,” he said at Tuesday’s Selectmen meeting. “This is a huge deal.” Tropeano has eight children and said every time someone in town passes away due to an opioid overdose, it brings tears to his eyes. But he said it’s hard to help rehabilitate addicts with the lack of funds the town has. “Without money, there’s not much you can do,” he said. “It’s a really difficult situation and I don’t know that anybody’s listening, because people are dying all across the country and nothing is changing.” Does he not realize we are virtually alone in NOT having any prevention and rehabilitation programs? There there IS money available, but no one is going to knock on his door and offer a check? Video of the November 21 Onset Fire District Special District Meeting

At 0:09 Atty Murray specifically states that it "hasn't met the stage of net surplus" but is an "operating expense."  The Warrant Article specifically states transfer "from surplus." At 1:23 Atty Murray states that "anything contrary to MA General Laws would not be valid." It was not permitted to have the Article read again before the vote. https://youtu.be/0Pt8pXoaDuQ
